Do Kuwait Citizens Need a New Zealand ETA (NZeTA)?

Kuwaiti passport holders can stay in New Zealand for up to 90 days per visit. This is the standard allowance for GCC nationals on the NZeTA programme. Each time you enter New Zealand on your NZeTA, you may stay for up to 90 days before you must depart.

The NZeTA itself is valid for 2 years from the date it is granted. During this two-year period you can enter New Zealand multiple times — making it a convenient authorisation for Kuwaiti travellers planning more than one trip or a combination of visits to New Zealand and nearby Pacific or Australian destinations.

It is important to adhere strictly to the 90-day limit per visit. If you wish to extend your stay beyond 90 days, you must apply to Immigration New Zealand for an appropriate visa before your allowed time expires. Overstaying can result in removal from New Zealand and may affect future visa applications.

The NZeTA application is entirely online and can be completed from Kuwait City or anywhere with an internet connection. No embassy appointment or paper forms are involved. The process is:

1. Access the online application form — available via our secure portal on any device (smartphone, tablet, or desktop computer).
2. Enter your Kuwaiti passport details — passport number, personal information, and travel details.
3. Complete health and character declarations — answer a series of questions honestly. The majority of Kuwaiti applicants encounter no issues at this stage.
4. Pay the application fee — by credit or debit card. This covers the NZeTA processing fee and the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL).
5. Receive your approval by email — typically within 24–72 hours. The NZeTA is linked to your passport electronically, and your email confirmation is your record of approval.

The entire process typically takes under 10 minutes to complete. Apply at least one week before departure to ensure you have approval well before your flight.

The NZeTA for Kuwaiti citizens requires only a small number of items — far fewer than a traditional visa application:

• Valid Kuwaiti passport — must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure date from New Zealand. Only a Kuwaiti citizen's passport is accepted — a Civil ID or residency card is not sufficient.
• Email address — approval is delivered exclusively by email. Use an address you check regularly.
• Payment card — Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card to pay the application fee. The fee is non-refundable.
• Health and character declaration — honest answers to questions about health history and any criminal record.

No photographs, employment letters, bank statements, travel insurance documents, or hotel bookings are needed as part of the NZeTA application itself. However, at the New Zealand border on arrival, you may be asked to show evidence of onward travel, accommodation bookings, and sufficient funds for your stay.

Yes — business visits are fully permitted under the NZeTA. Kuwaiti citizens can travel to New Zealand on an NZeTA for a wide range of business purposes, including:

• Attending business meetings, negotiations, or trade discussions
• Participating in conferences, seminars, or industry events
• Visiting business partners or suppliers
• Conducting site inspections or due diligence visits
• Attending training sessions (as a trainee, not as a paid trainer)

What the NZeTA does not permit is paid employment in New Zealand — meaning you cannot be paid by a New Zealand employer to work in the country. If you are being paid by your Kuwaiti employer for work activities conducted while in New Zealand (such as attending meetings), this is generally acceptable under business visitor rules.
